TELLURIUM III

A tellurion (also spelled tellurian,tellurium, and yet another name is loxocosm), is a clock, typically of French or Swiss origin, surmounted by a mechanism that depicts how day, night, and the seasons are caused by the rotation and orientation of Earth on its axis and its orbit around the Sun. The Hermle Tellurium III Astronomical Clock has an antique walnut finish case, supported by brass columns and decorated with beveled glass. The antique finish solid walnut case features a front and back door, metal applications, pearl dcor, and brass columns. The beveled glass dome boasts hand cut stars, displaying the cast meta turning sun-god, earth globe, moon and zodiac signs and milled, lacquered date disc. Enamel dial and filigree hands underline the unique character of this outstanding design. Beneath the representation of the sun, the earth and the moon, bold Roman numerals stand out against the white background of its clock face while the enchanting ensemble is covered with a glass dome which has been decorated with stars. Mechanical movement reproduces the annual orbit of the earth around the sun, with the earth rotating on its own axis every twenty four hours. The moon, in turn, revolves around the earth in 29.5 days completing a full rotation around its axis. This allows the reproduction of the different moon phases as they are visible from earth. In the course of one year, the earth passes all twelve zodiac signs, months and individual days which are indicated on the flat disc. Eight-day spring wound movement with Westminster chime on 4 polished bells. 11 jewel deadbeat escapement mechanism. Automatic night shut-off. Chime shut-off switch included.
